Excited to finally share the details of Lauren’s New York apartment, but it feels wrong to get into it without a little backstory. I’ve had nothing but fun working with her older sister Courtney, so when she sent me to Lauren, co-host of pop culture podcast, Pop Apologists, I was thrilled. While they’re both the most delightful, kind, and clever blondes, I would consider their style entirely opposite— which truly made this project such a treat. A chance to study another sister and lean into the Lauren of it all.
When we got together to shoot the project, we spent an afternoon with Taylor Swift on repeat, an unreasonable amount of popcorn, and plenty of champagne to capture every detail.
Lauren and her husband split their time between Puerto Rico and New York, where she found an apartment with the most magical views—the skyline is the real decor here. She wanted a space that felt like her—luxe but livable. She makes no apologies for loving a little luxury and wanted those moments woven into her everyday life, and I was happy to help make that a reality!
Challenges
The biggest challenge we were working with was the speed—they wanted the space fully furnished by move-in which meant pivoting away from a few dream pieces that wouldn’t make it in time. For a little added thrill, midway through she toured another unit, fell for a different layout, and made the switch after we’d already ordered most of the furniture. Luckily, everything still worked— we just tweaked the configurations a touch.
With all the moving parts, flexibility was key—but there was one thing that wasn’t up for debate: the sectional. Let’s just say previous furniture choices weren’t exactly met with standing ovations. We’re taking no risks—this sectional had to be perfect. Since Lauren and her husband both work from home and a major part of her job is staying up to date on reality TV, this sofa had a tall order—Zoom throne by day, cocktail lounge by night. Husband complaint-proof.
We even sent friends on sit-testing assignments, but nothing was up to snuff. Their willingness to help us test out every option only confirmed how wonderful Lauren’s friends are, but it quickly became clear that custom was the only way to get the comfort and quality we truly wanted. We ended up shifting the budget to make the dream happen. I can’t promise much, but I can promise a stunning, sink-right-in piece of furniture that no one will want to get up from. The bold green sealed the deal.
*Quick note about the sectional: If you love it and want one of your own, I’d be happy to order or customize something for you. Shoot me an email at orders@mothersdaughterdesign.com if you’re interested!
Color & Material Palette
When it comes to color, I start with shades that flatter the client—a quick glance at their closet says it all. More often than not, the hues they naturally gravitate toward in clothing are the ones they’ll love living in too. For Lauren, that meant neutrals, greens, and aquas (our running joke is she’s most at home on a beach vacation, so the aquas and sandy tones are a nod to her ideal backdrop).
The girl loves white oak and natural stones, and without a renovation, you can only fit so much marble into a two-bedroom apartment. So we got creative with stone accessories, a bistro table, and a sculptural side table. Natural woven textures and a high-end, timeless boucle for her bed kept things feeling rich without leaning too trendy.
We played with a few more adventurous ideas—bolder palettes, riskier choices—but all roads led back to Lauren’s true north. It’s like dating the wrong guy just to realize you got it right the first time. Every time we strayed from her instincts, it only cemented that we nailed it from the get-go.
Lauren’s space is a lesson in trusting what you’re drawn to. Her new apartment feels like an up-in-the-clouds retreat—comfortable, luxurious, and unmistakably her.

Lauren’s sharing sources on her newsletter so jump over there if you’re eyeing anything. I’m very happy to share our work together is just beginning—we’re currently tackling their podcast studio and since this one’s a sister affair, we’re weaving in a little Chanler with rusty reds to balance it all out. More to come!
